What is the difference between the levels?
Open Level: This is the level for the best players in our area at their respective levels. Players at this level MUST be dedicated and committed to the team and to the travel schedule. This includes full weekend trips and overnight stays. Tryouts are by invitation only as we have a limited amount of space and allotted times. Players must request an invitation and Coastal coaches will determine if a player can meet the level requirements. All players not meeting the level will be wait listed and can be accepted to the tryout if space is available. This level will practice Sundays and Thursdays.
OPEN LEVEL NOTES –
- 17U and 18U players CANNOT participate in High School or AAU Basketball. They should not compete in Winter or Spring Track, Softball and play in this program.
- 14U and 16U players may participate in other sports BUT MUST inform the club at TRYOUTS.
- The Open Level program is designed for players whose main sport is volleyball and they plan on participating in this sport in college.
Club Level: This level requires less of a travel commitment and only Sunday practices and tournaments. The teams will compete in the RI Rumble. This is a convention Center tournament held on 2 days. Players must still be committed but there will be some flexibility from team to team and coach to coach. Most players that participate in an additional sport in a High School play at this level.
Clinic: This level will not travel and commitment is up to each family. The more you practice the better you get.
If I do not make a team will I be cut?
Players cut from the Open Levels will be able to tryout for the Club Levels. Players cut from the Club Levels will be able to participate in the Clinic Levels. Refunds will be made to players getting moved between levels up until March 1st.
Where do teams travel and what is the schedule for that travel?
There are about 700 teams in our Region. Each tournament week teams are ranked and a schedule is completed using this ranking system. This means that we do not have specific venues for teams until about 1 week prior to the next date. Travel is usually 30 minutes to 2 hours from our base in New Bedford. The better your team plays the greater the distance of travel to see better competition. The Open levels will travel 2 to 3 hours on some weekends including 5 Convention Center events to Hartford CT, Providence RI and Boston.
What times are practices and where will they be?
Practices will generally be Clinic 10:00-11:30, Youth 11:30-1:00, Club time slots between 1:00-5:30, Open will be 5:30-7:00. All practices will be at the Normandin Middle School, New Bedford MA
